About Us

What is Arclight Studios?

Arclight Studios was started in 2000 by former film students, as an independent film company in Dayton, OH. The endeavor was built on a life-long love for the cinema, turning passion into reality and risking it all to say "we did". After a handful of shorts that survive more as learning exercises, the company churned for years in development on its most sophisticated project. In 2007 the company evolved into a professional service, providing a full range of video production and graphic design. It was a logical extension of owner and president DB Hansen's skills, which for years he'd spent using in the service of other people. In 2008 the company migrated to Marietta, GA, where it continues working and dreaming. Today we are a limited liability company fully owned and operated by DB and Elizabeth Hansen.

Our primary goal is the creation of compelling works that tell individual stories, whether it's a design piece, a promo video, or in fact, a narrative film. We are all, as has been said, players in one greater drama. We look forward to telling more of our particular chapters, as well as helping others tell theirs.

Arc•Light

Arc lights, or arc lamps as they were commonly known, were a type of tungsten lamp developed in the early 19th cent. Two filaments would come together, barely touching, to create a white hot light arcing across a gas field. Among other applications, they were widely used in film projection up until the early part of the 20th century. Their volatility made them bright, but dangerous, and were the cause of several movie theater fires.

Arc Lights were also the name given to B-52s used in the Vietnam War. In the movie Apocalypse Now one of the characters shouts out "Arc Light!" as a strike zooms by overhead. We like the movie. It seemed like a good name.

We have no affiliation with the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood, CA, but we did come by our company name first, so...
